OUTREACH NEWS >

OUTREACH: In addition to our outreach to foreign missions in South America and Africa, we are involved in many local efforts:

SHIELD A BADGE WITH PRAYER :

Attention Prayer Warriors! The Camden County Sheriff's Office has asked us to join them in surrounding their officers with prayer every day for a year.

If you would like to participate you can pick up a form at the church or send your name, address and phone number to:

Lt. Rodney L. Meads, Camden County Sheriff's Office, PO Box 57, Camden, NC 27921.

You will then be sent the name of the person for whom you will be praying each day. These officers do so much for us - let's surround them with the powerful protection of prayer.

FEEDING THE HOMELESS:

Every Wednesday evening at 5:00 we gather at the old Elizabeth City Middle School (Elizabeth & Road Street) to provide meals for the homeless and needy. We have four teams which rotate each week and in months with a fifth week the youth provide the meals. We welcome your participation either to help prepare the meals and/or serve them.

If you are willing to help, contact Mary at the Church office (252-337-7177)

or Marina Stevenson (252-207-1628)

CAMDEN FOOD PANTRY:

We regularly collect food for the Camden Food Pantry. We can use donations of canned and packaged items (cereals, pasta/beans, sauce etc) -- any time! We also welcome your help in giving out these food boxes.

Boxes are given out twice a month at the Methodist Church in Camden. Volunteers are needed from 8:30 to about 11:00 to fill boxes and hand them out.

If you are interested in helping please contact Mary at the Church office (252-337-7177).

SUPPORT THE TROOPS-MILITARY CARE PACKAGES:

John and Barbara Waldo have sent hundreds of pounds of cookies, stuffed animals, toys, books, and personal care items to the troops in Iraq. The troops have been so grateful and regularly correspond with the Waldos. We include those letters on this page along with pictures the soldiers send. If you would like to contribute just drop off your donations at the church and the Waldos will make sure they get into a box headed for the desert!

LTC Lou Zeisman, his wife Missy, and their 2 sons, Hunter
and Hudson visited Elizabeth City to show appreciation
for the support he and his Troops received while serving
in Iraq. They attended the Hertford Home Group’s
Christmas Fair, then attended Church of the
Redeemer on Sunday, December 13. Lou gave a talk and
showed a video of their Iraqi Children Outreach Program.
He then presented Rickie and Church of the Redeemer with a flag that flew over his headquarters in Iraq, along with several medals, including one from the Commanding General.

Our men and women in the military in Iraq want Homemade Cookies!

For their outreach programs for the Iraqi children, I suggest the following:

Children's short sleeve tee shirts or shorts

Soccer Balls

Stuffed animals, (used or new as long as they're in good condition) No dogs or pigs

Coloring books, crayons

Other toys

And for those who don't have the time to shop or bake, a check to Church of the Redeemer marked  "For Postage to Iraq" will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Barbara Waldo

Barbara,

The clothing would be great.  We hand out a lot of things to the children when we are on patrol; they love anything from the U.S.

The brownies were great; I even have a couple of extra pounds to prove it. Carrie is a master at packing food items.  Even the loaves of bread that she sent this past Christmas were still fresh when we opened them.

The mail sometimes runs a little faster; our problem this time of the year is the weather. The mail is flown in from Kuwait to one of our larger bases and then we send a patrol to pick up the mail and bring it down here to our base.  In the late winter / early spring, Iraq is famous for large dust storms which shut down all air and ground movement.  We have had a couple of these over the last two weeks which either slows the mail getting from Kuwait into Iraq or prevents us from driving to the larger base to pick up our mail. The weather should be improving over the next 3 weeks--of course then the temperature starts to climb (we will average around 118 degrees during the summer!) but that will not affect the mail.

Take Arms!

Hello to all--
We just got back in from our patrol.  (Long-Day)

Today, General Ali and my team went to a school not to far from here and distributed some of the stuff you sent----the balls and Girl Scout cookies are always a hit.

Thanks again for making a difference in our area of operations.
